I had a driver's door switchpack fail, but it started to smoke and stopped working altogether. Only solution was to replace the entire switchpack. Found one on EBay for about US $90.
It's pretty easy to pop the whole switchpack out of the door. See other posts on the BB to find some descriptions of the removal. It involves sticking screwdrivers in the gap and just popping it out. Then you can disassemble it and clean out any crud that is inside (mine was full of junk, including some burned up parts from the actual failure). Maybe the internal contacts are just dirty, and cleaning them would restore proper operation.
Good luck.
