Stiff Steering 850 1996

I've been experiencing a similar stiffened steering condition on my '93 854. I suspect it may be the u-joint because the stiffness presents when the wheel is turned from center to either 9:00 or 3:00 but loosens again at about 6:00 from either direction. Would shooting some lubricant into the joint loosen it up again, or will the joint continue to seize? Thanks
