You have to get to the cable to get the seat back up so you might as well fix the cable. Very rare that you need to get a new cable. The problem (most of the time) is the cable housing is too long and allows the cable to pop out of it's socket. Pull off the cable housing end fitting, shorten the housing a bit and re install.
