Service Indicator Light - Does anyone out there work for Volvo? S80 2000

Steve,
Funny you should mention the service booklet. I completely agree with your point of view, but the Dealer charges for such things in my part of the world border on larceny.

I have all of my routing maintenance work, including oil changes, performed at the Dealer. It's a little pricey, but not exhorbitant. Per the factory service schedule, it goes in every 7500 milles without fail. But my service light is set for 5000 service intervals, and my Dealer requires the car be left all day for this 15 second procedure, so I've learned to do it myself as a matter of convenience. I don't know what they will charge to turn it off, because I've never asked.
My annoyance is that after paying $45 for an oil change, $90 for a brake system flush, and $45 to rotate the tires, there is an additional $50 administrative charge imposed if I want the service booklet stamped. According to the Service Advisor, this requires a connection to the master computer in Sweden, for which they are charged a $30 connect fee by Volvo. So I make do without the "souvenir" stamp and just save my service receipts in a binder.

My lease requires the service booklet be stamped, which would cost me $300 extra over the life of the lease. If they penalize me for having service records in place of the $50 stamps, I'll simply not lease another Volvo. My previous S70 lease did not have this requirement.

I always wonder why Volvo North America makes the simple things so difficult?
