Spring Seat recommendation? 850 1995

The local Volvo mechanic, who was actually recommended by the Volvo dealership as where "anyone not under warranty would get their car serviced" did mention Sachs, and I had forgotten the name. When I asked about struts his comment was "I service cars that go to 250K miles all the time and I think I have replaced struts once - they last forever". Now, I have not seen a comment like this anywhere else. I know this comment is may draw a lot of flack with people saying "I'd take my car somewhere else". I don't know what to say - this fellow has a steady stream of Volvo business and sells used Volvos that he warranties himself. I am open to other opinions (on the struts)...
