First time Volvo owner needs advice 850

Flush the tranny unless you're sure it was done within 30000 miles. Use the very simple method well outlined on this forum that replaces all of it which will require ~ 12 qts. If you can swing the extra cost, go with Mobil 1 or Amsol synthetic. The 850 has no internal filter and volvo didn't recommend ATF fluid change interval (they didn't want to imply the 850 is expensive to maintain, it is) so a lot of um are running around with the origonal ATF still in there.
