A/C recharge fitting 850 1997

I was less than clear. The system is,and always has been, 134...I can't get the hose to couple to the port to recharge. My wife has a 03 Honda and I was able to connect the hose to the port on it w/o any trouble. I an told by the guys at the local parts store that all 134 recharge ports(low-side) are the same. Is there some adapter required or some reason my port would be different-bad karma, ex wife,etc.
