Yes, you can use a long skinny screwdriver from above to help pry it off.
To reattach it, work from the right (starter) side and you will be able to get your hand up there just far enough to get the vacumn line back on. Hit it with a little WD-40 to make it slide on easier if you like. The vacumn line is curved where it slides over the nipple so that helps. Just get the line barely on the nipple and then push on the back of the line and she'll slide on without any trouble.
I wouldn't mess with removing the ETM.
