blower for the air conditioner 850 1995

My A/C / heater blower comes on then unpredictably turns off while driving; sometimes after a couple minutes and sometimes much longer. Once it stops blowing, it will only come back on if I turn off and restart the ignition.

My car has the continuously variable fan speed (rather than 1,2,3 etc.). The same will happen whether I'm in Auto (climate control mode) or manually setting fan speed.

Any ideas of the likely causes of this problem and what it would cost to repair?
