Failed Emission.....Computer Not ready

My 1997 Volvo Turbo failed to pass the emission test.....said the computer was not ready. Mechanic said that I need to drive it more. I have had to replace the battery which caused the problem. I have heard there is a schedule that you drive to make it so the computer will be ready for the test. I have looked around for the information but I can't find it. Does anyone out there know what it is? Also can I montor it with my OBDII CODE READER? Thanks for any information as I need to get it re-inspected before the end of the month. VolvoLarry.
