If it is the "common" problem that you are talking about, you have to pry the door open, use duct tape on the vinyl edge of the door so you don't cut it up and hack saw the metal brackets (lock brace) off to get the door open. The fix is a replacement of the brackets as well as (sometimes) an insert for the lock itself. Most often you also have to replace the key insert. Believe the lock brace and key insert is sold as a kit. Sorry fcpgroton doesn't have it. Try www.borton.com ...bet they do. If not on their website, call them.
If you do a search, it's well documented here on the brickboard.
You have to replace the brackets (called a lock brace: Part #6818223)
and many times, replace the latch (locking mechanism: Part #6818224) or at least the key insert for that. You'll have to take the screws out to take the cover off to get to the latch. The key insert (called a lock cylinder) for the glove compartment is part #6817961
