Odometer Failure - But not the gear(s) 850 1996

I had odometer failure a few months ago at 118k. I read the great posts and the links to the steps with pictures. I bought the replacement gear, removed the cluster, and opened up the ODO. But the gear was not broken. Somewhere somehow the odometer motor must not be getting the signal to fire, or perhaps the motor has failed. Any ideas on how to diagnose this problem? Thanks - Greg/East Dallas
