thanks for the input, it was very helpful. i've made the mark on the coolant resevoir and i'll watch and see what happens. i did check the dipstick, bottom of the oil cap, and the coolant, and everything seems normal though. also, i noticed that the smoke is intermittent. it didn't happen this morning.
could it still be the head gasket?
