You didn't mention whether or not the transmission fluid has been checked, or, better yet, changed recently. If the PNP switch has failed, or is intermittant, you would probably get error codes which would tell you that. If the transmission oil has been allowed to get really bad over a period of time, there are a variety of valve body components which could get stuck, and cause all sorts of problems. An automatic transmission operates on hydraulic pressure, as well as an assortment of electrical sensor inputs. Higher temps can free up stuck components, which will stick again upon cooling down. If "ratcheting", (i.e. cycling the shift linkage through all the gear positions quite a few times to try to clean the switch contacts) makes no difference, I hope you've read all the forums that discuss problems like yours.
