Peculiar problem, as of yet only happens once a year... 850 1996

It does sound like fuel relay/ fuel starvation but try also blocked/leaking pipe/hoses around the throttle body. Have you cleaned the throttle body yet as it is the main cause of rough idle? The ECU will compensate for this and you'll only know it's a problem when the ECU loses it's power when you take the battery out and the ECU can't re-learn the engines balistics. It will then idle rough for ever more until you clean the TB and unblock the crudded up pipes and hoses around it.
