AC noise on V40 S40-V40 2000

The car has only 34,000 miles on it so I don't think the overhead cam belt has been changed. (we don't drive a lot)
And I haven't noticed if the fan kicks in when the A/C is turned on if the car is not warmed up. I would venture that it does not.
