The rack is really nothing more than a hydraulic cylinder/piston assembly. The problem is that when seals wear out, there is always the question of whether or not the rod that slides throught the seals, as well as the internal piston, is worn also. In my field, whenever a customer insists that cylinder shaft seals be replaced on site, as opposed to taking the assembly to a shop where it can be properly disassembled, cleaned, inspected, and "miked" (accurately measured), I decline the job. Too many down stream subsequent failures, and the resulting arguments as to whose fault it is. Hope this helps.
