PCV Oil trap removal (oil separator) S80

What year S80 are we talking about here? I know you have a reset tool, but my understanding is that no tool is needed. If you tell me what model year, I could probably tell you which buttons to push to get the SRI light to go off.

Also, on the 70 series cars they did away with that dammed Oil Trap. I don't see why you can't just take it out and get rid of it. Anyway, post back. Seems you S80 guys put up with way more than we do.

Would love to help...have VADIS and can look up stuff for you too. Am looking for the Oil Trap diagram as I type.

Edit:
Found stuff on VADIS but not what I thougt. Guess there really isn't much for even the dealer to go to for replacing this thing. Best I can tell, you do have to remove the upper intake manifold. There are 10 screws holding this on. You'll have to get a new gasket too. Make sure to tighten all to 12.54 Lb.FT. or 17Nm. I still would be tempted to not take the manifold off, take the hoses off of the unit from above the manifold if you can get to them and just leave the old Oil Trap there. Rerouting the hoses is another thing entirely and I would check with those at VolvoSpeed if they have done such a mod. The main thing is that the Oil Trap is suppose to be cleaned by the dealer at 60,000 miles. If you did the Dealer service it should have been done. If not, then...oh well. For it to be leaking makes me thing that the Crankcase Ventilation system is clogged up somewhere and building up pressure. I would check all of your hoses in the system to make sure. On our 70 series cars when hoses get clogged seals start leaking before long...worst one to leak of course is the Rear-Main seal...then we're talking mega-bucks for a R&R. One way to check for clogged hoses is the take the oil filler cap off, then remove the vacuum hose for the crankcase ventilation from the nipple at the intake hose and then blow into the hose and nipple to check that they are open and allow air flow. If there is considerable resistance or it is totally clogged, then remove the noses and nipple and clean and replace as needed.
Regards,
MIJ
