think i will need a head repair at least that is what the dealer said and they only replace heads do not machine them. my 940 turbo has 150,000 and it is using water and sometime moving toward red. would appreciate any comments on positive or negative experiences that people may have had here on the gulf coast of fl with mechanics or shops. i of course want someone who will do a good job at a fair price. i have read some people heat the aluminum head then straighten and others shave it flat. concerned though about the head being shaved and changing the fit of the timing belt. thanks in advance

    depends on how bad the warp is. if it's too much, then it should be heated and straightened. shaving it means the cam is bent slightly, which wears the cam saddles and there goes the oil pressure and the cam seizes. any shop you pick SHOULD tell you how much it's warped. i forget the numbers but i think anything over .015 or so should not be shaved.

    i'm in orlando, but i don't know anyone close to you. there's a guy-roger-in ft myers and i think he's listed in the recommended shops. if he's not there, then maybe i can remember the name of his place, or someone else will. good luck, chuck.

          chuck i missed your message somehow untill i checked today. it is 116 miles to naples and about 131 to orlando. can not locate the advertised shops on the forum yet. the car will drive okay most of the time it just gets warmer sometimes. but to get a good job i would drive. do you know of a shop in orlando or do you do head removal? any idea on what ballpark shop cost would be on a head repair? would i be better off to get another lower mileage engine from car-parts? if so any ideas of cost range on engine remove and install. much thanks for all info so far

    Why not pull the head and run it into a place like Clearwater Cylinder Head for reconditioning. $300 and it is good as new. New gasket, clean surface, timing belt, Bentley or Volvo manual and done for $500 max.

      well i am not sure if i am up for it. i looked at the repair book and it looked a bit challenging for me. do you know this machine shop to do a good job?
