Emulsified oil in 1996 960 900

For some time I've had a mysterious coolant loss. Minimal, as in less than a pint every 6 months. Recently, I've been noticing hints of milky, emulsified oil on the dipstick. Very small quantities. I seriously doubt a head gasket. Engine's never been overheated, and barring that the 2.9 doesn't seem to have any real history of head gasket problems. Two things come to mind. First, it's getting into winter, could be a result of the car's use: it sees lots of in-town, short run driving. Second, the oil cooler: can coolant leak into the oil at the adapter? I will note one thing that preceeded this condition but likely has no connection, namely, I was a quart low on oil a few months back, added a quart of standard dino oil (I've always run semi-synthetic). At the last oil change, grunge on the dip stick, changed oil, everything looked clean, but a check this weekend showed small traces of emulsified oil.
Thanks in advance for any opinions.
Richard

Getting into winter especially if you do alot of short trips without getting up to temp will cause mild milkshake in the oil from condensation

      Emulsified oil in 1996 960 900

Back during the early spring,I built an oil accumalator that takes the gases from the oil breather box hose, routes it through to the accumalator and then back to the flame trap. You wouldn't belive what I find from time to time in the bottom of the sucker-it's all most like water and some times almost half a cup of the stuff.
What your talking about in your engine leans me to think it's normal condensation not real trouble. As for the loss of coolent, might check around the front of your water pump,if that gasket shrinks any it can cause a very slow leak of coolent and drive ya nuts trying to find it.
      Hope that helps

Thanks for the tip on the water pump gasket. It does drive me nuts. But, it's about due for its next timing belt, at which point I was planning a water pump as well, seeing's how it's hitting 150,000 miles on the original. As to the moisture, I guess I just won't worry about it. Just one of those things I hadn't noticed before.
        Regards, Richard
