Another Carb Question.... 140-160

Hi to all,
Yet again I have a nother SU question.
What is the number on the tag signify? What is the difference between the AUD 252 HS6 and an AUD 94 HS6? Will the 94 work on a stock B20?
Thanks,
Chris

Another Carb Question.... 140-160

Hi Chris;
The ZH needle was borderline lean for a B18, so if you can find another DX needle the B20 will run like gangbusters. No other carb mod necessary, and don't worry about the piston springs. As long as you have two that look the same, they are.

Another Carb Question.... 140-160

While on this topic, how do the DX's compare with KD's? Which ones are better suited to a B-20?

Yes the DX is slightly leaner off idle, and was used on the iron preheater manifolds. Otherwise it is very similar to the KD. Both are just fine for the B20.

Rob,
I don't think there's much difference at all. At the low speed end KD is a little richer than DX, but from station 6 they are the same. Go to www.teglerizer.com/suneedledb and punch in the two codes, and you'll see what I mean. Then punch in ZH and you'll see that it's an entirely different profile.

It is the model of the carb. Among other things, different needles are used,
and different springs, and some models mount differently or have different
float bowl angles, etc etc. But most of them used on Volvos are pretty
interchangeable.
AUD252 carbs were used on 67-68 144s with the B18B engine. They have DX needles
and red springs.
The AUD94s were used on the 63-65 P1800s with the B18B and came with ZH needles
and red springs. Should work fine - may need different air cleaners.

Thanks for the info.
...but I have one other question I should've mentioned I have a B20. Will they work well on a B20 if they were meant for a B18??

Another Carb Question.... 140-160

Thanks Again!
I never make it to 6,000 rpm's. My car runs out of breath at 4,500. I've had it up to 5,000, but it's really raucous by then.

The suspension and brakes are fully rebuilt, body and interior are good, It is probably time for a motor rebuild with a vpd street performance motor, (150 or so hp). ...If I can find the $$$.
When I bought the car it supposedly had a new (53,000 mile when I bought it) direct from Volvo short block in it. I don't know what cam is in it but it sure doesn't like going over 4500, I'm doing about 70-75 mph by then. It is noisy highway cruising. I oput an OD in it this past summer. I do remeber being able to rev my '68 1800 to 6,000 when I was in college and would sure like to get my 142 usable as a comfortable daily driver. well, comfortable in running anyway, my suspension and tires are a bit stiff on these crappy New York roads anyway.
Thanks again!

The B18 and B20 Stromberg (presumable also the SU) carbs have different Volvo part numbers. It may have different fuel metering needles, or it may have different fittings. The difference can't be much, but enough for Volvo to warrent different part numbers. Have fun...
