How do you dignose a York A/C Compressor? 200 1981

My 81 240 A/C system has a new filter, a new thermostat and a fresh R-134 charge. It holds the charge. However it is not blowing cold. It seems by elimination to be a problem with the compressor. Due to the replacement expense I am hoping that there is a further test that I can do to pinpoint the problem. The compressor runs quietly does not make bearing noises etc.How can I test a compressor? Is there another point in the system that I should be looking at? At this point I also might also be interested in a used compressor; preferably in Southern California
Thank You Brickboard

I agree with those that recommend a Rotary compressor install.

You should be able to find one in most junk yards. I believe they switched to the Rotary compressor in '86. It might have been earlier though.

I bought one here for under $40 last year during summer. (I have yet to install it though.)

It's hard to diagnose anything without knowing the high side and low side pressures.

I would, and always do, convert to a rotary. You need the big aluminum bracket off an 86-on 240 (only) as well as the power steering from the newer car. See any of my old posts on the conversion.
