radiator 444-544

Is there anyone out there that has a servicable radiator for a 544, or might know where I might find one? Thanks

I have a 1300/1600 radiator, won't fit the B18/B20 engines. Too small, tiny water necks, bottom hose outlet on the left (wrong) side.

It's going back on eBay after Christmas.

Probably should have mentioned the radiator I need is for a 64 544. I have found a new one ($290) and a used one with one side flange missing for $70. My problem is that I don't have one to repair-none came with the project. I do appreciate all the input from everyone, and will keep looking for awhile. Skeet

Either one that I have should work, but let me take a look at the car and the rads first. If I have something you can use, you can have it at my cost; probably in the $70 (shipped) range.

I'm certain the one in the car now isn't from a '64 PV544, but it fits and works very well.

The overflow is on the right side of the tank, otherwise everything lines right up. I moved my overflow tank to the right inner fender and never looked back.

No one but a real PV fanatic would ever notice that it isn't the factory radiator.

Let's see if I have some pictures uploaded here -

OK, this is the current 'non-stock' radiator. As you can see, it fits great. Most likely a newer Volvo part that made its way into the rebuild.

Again, let me see what the new radiator looks like installed. If it works for me, I'll talk about sending you this 'old' one. If it won't work for me, it probably wouldn't work for you either.

I'll be back when I have news.

Steve

Look like a stock B20 radiatror out of a 140 series car with the mounting brackets reversed.

That's likely, since the engine (B20) came from a 1975 140-series car. It would be sensible to also take the radiator, even though it is a single, thin core and really isn't awfully efficient. At least out here where it gets to be 130 degrees, it isn't!

I might go back and look through the three boxes of receipts that came with the car and see if there are any details about where it came from.

They are different for B16 and B18 engined models, as is the front panel and bonnet hinges.

The radiator I bought arrived today. I have a cold and it's too cold outside for me to go out today. Hopefully tomorrow I can take it out and see if it will fit. My car came with a B18, and the sellet says this is a B18 radiator, but the bottom hose neck is further left than the one I'm using, so it may be for the B16.

If I can't use it, I'll total up what I paid for it and figure the shipping. It was really cheap, but appears to be in excellent condition.

Hopefully I can use it, but if I can't maybe you can. I'll let you know tomorrow.

Steve

Skeet,
In view of your location, I suggest you try www.revolvstore.com first. If that doesn't work, try Suquehanna Spares in Harrisburg,PA. That is Joe Lazenby (717) 921-2644 or (717) 249-0565. Leave message, and he'll get back to you. If you have a sick one, they can be repaired.

I bought one a week or so ago, it still hasn't arrived. I plan to have it overhauled and beefed up with a new triple core.

The old one currently in my car doesn't seem to be the right one; the necks all line up, and the dimensions are about right, but the securing holes don't match anything on the car. Right now I'm using nylon zip ties and prayers.

The old one may be out of a later model Volvo.

If I come across one, I'll let you know, but having one rebuilt right costs just about the same as buying a new one, maybe a little less. Ask around and see what it would cost you to have your old one fixed up. You might be pleasantly surprized.
