¿Does Mechanical Fuel Pump need spacer btwn pump & block? 200 1980

I found a marine diaphragm fuel pump that I want to put on a B21F with a
HIF6 carb. Currently the car has an ailing K-jet and I have spent a lot
more time than I can afford trying to understand it, and it is not even MINE!
Question is, on a B21 do you use a spacer between the mechanical fuel pump
and the block like the B18/20/30 do? It is a different pump so it would also
require a different pump. I imagine our friends in Canada can help with this.
Many thanks,

Yes, there is a hard black plastic spacer between pump and engine maybe about 1/4" thick. Don't know why, but John Sargent's post seems plausible.

I have no specific experience with this, but I'd expect the spacer is for to keep heat out of the fuel pump and prevent vapor lock
