I recently bought a 82 240 and am wondering about an accurate automatic transmission fluid level reading. When cold, the fluid measures above the plastic guage (which has hot and cold readings). However, when the car has been driven and the fluid is hot, it does not register on the dipstick at all. The transmission works and shifts fine. My gut tells me that the reading taken when hot would be the accurate one, but, I don't want to risk overfilling the transmission. Has anyone had a simalar experience? Thanks in advance for any input.
