1992 940 Turbo - Reverse struggles - in Neutral goes forward 900 1992

I am new to the forum and am hoping to get advice to repair my transmission problem.

ORIGINAL SYMPTOMS:

In Drive, the car would have occasional slight shifting delays between 1st & 2nd and 2nd & 3rd

ACTION:

Mechanic adjusted then replaced the kick down cable.
Power flushed the transmissiona and replaced the transmission fluid

CURRENT SYMPTOMS:
In Reverse, the car (intermittently) struggles like it is fighting itself to back up, requiring exertion on the gas peddle to attempt backing. Sometimes it won't back up at all.

In Neutral, the car (again intermittently) goes forward instead of idling.

In Drive, it is OK with the same occasional slight shifting delays between 1st & 2nd and 2nd & 3rd

I don't know what to do now.... Does any one have a suggestion that might point to the problem causing these symptoms??
thanks,
Dan in Springfield, VA

I had this exact problem. I first checked the tranny mount and all the linkages and suggest you do the same.

If this doesn't fix it then you might what to try what I did. I know it sounds like snake oil, but try Auto-Rx. I traced it down to a sticking valve in the valve body. Before actually pulling the valve body from the tranny, I figured I would give the Auto-Rx a shot and it worked like a charm. I followed the instructions to a "T" and many thousands of miles later still no problems.

I'm not affiliated in any way and this might not work for you, but for $25 you have little to lose.

It almost sounds like the shifter linkage might be at least part of the problem. There are some little plastic bushings in the linkage connections that wear out and cause a lot of play in the shifter and interfere with precise gear selections. Bad motor and transmission mounts may also cause some of the same sort of problems.

Is the fluid up to the proper level?
