Straddling the fence?? 2001

Well, I guess I am going to get to see how the "other half" lives.
After spending almost 40 years in pre-75 "REAL" Volvos, I bid on and
won a 2001 Volvo S60 T5. If you want to look at it, it is ebay item
number 4599758993. Scott at IPD tells me they are pretty trouble-free,
which I hope this one turns out to be. I suspect my intuition will be
a lot less help on this one than the oldtimers.

Next problem: How do I get to Fut Wuth to pick it up.........

Wife.luv (formerly wife.mil and wife.org) says that at least one of two NF
Volvos has to go, so I guess Ben and I will be spending more time out and
under. Then she won't get to take him to work any more.

This, however, does NOT mean that I will not be lurking here. There will
still be the Yellow Peril, the 164 and probably one 66 220 wagon in the
drive, at least until something more fun comes along. Then there's Susan's
245..

"How do I get to Fut Wuth to pick it up.........

It's just down the street from you, George! I am just 'down the street' in Prosper, TX
Anyway, the car looks great! You are not wayward on your decision, since a true Volvo owner needs the old and the new in the stable.

I know the dealer, Texas Auto Group. I responded to an add in Feb last year and ALMOST traded in my '04 V70 Titanium edition with a mere 6k miles on it, for a rare '02 C70 HT coupe, red, fast, and very sweet looking, only 19k miles. They had a great price on the C70. The wife didn't like the Volvo wagon style, but boy did she like that coupe!
Glad we couldn't make the deal, as I still have the V70, and I love it. The S60/V70 is a very nice car by comparison to the older P1 platform, handles better, more comfortable, esp those sport bucket seats! You will really enjoy the car.
The dealer, Texas Auto Group is a very reputable outfit, got some really nice cars, classic and new, I was surprised how reasonable they were on that C70. You should have a good experience dealing with them.
Let us know how it goes!

Very best of luck, George.

Not that it's of the same magnitude of change, but when I went from driving and working on 120/220 series cars to 200 series cars, there was an equal split with regard to enjoyment and appreciation of the good points and abilities of each. One didn't eclipse the other.

Looking forward to reading your insights as you familiarize yourself with the new rig.
All the best.
Al

At the risk of being offensive (and I apologize in advance) it may have been
easier than keeping the number of hits up on ECVV site, at least if the $$
are available. I'll report more later. Under considerable pressure, I will
reduce the number of NF Volvos in the driveway (currently down to 2, both 66
220s) as well as functional ones. Probably a couple will stay in the family.

That looks like a nice car, It represents a lot of "real" Volvos though!

You going to pick it up and drive it home, sounds like an adventure?

Happy New Year!

Best regards

Pete

Hey Pete!
Haven't heard much from you lately -
Did Father Christmas treat you right?

I will (Lord willing) be flying to DFW Friday noon and will be picked
up there and taken to the dealers where the deal will be finalized,
and then I'll drive it home, with a possible stop to visit a friend on
the way by. Looks like a fun trip - probably 250-300 miles depending
on the route.

Hi George,

I had a good Christmas. We concentrated on the children rather than grossing out on presents for the adults. Tried to keep it within reasonable bounds for the kids too, but it was nice, my Mum, my sister, her husband, her husband's father. I enjoyed myself.

Are you keeping well?

I think you'll enjoy your new car, the seamless performance is awesome. I had a V70 wagon for a while, but went back to a 940 because it was a bit small for my needs load carrying wise. In some ways I find those front drive cars more tiring to drive than the RWD ones, less relaxed with all that oomph going through the front wheels, but great fun!

Keep well, drive carefully!

Best Regards

Pete
