    Will 164 tierod fit 144?. 140-160

    Hey Jack, Welcome back!
The difference was not so much 140/164 but 67-69 and 70 on.
    (Probably earlier for the 164s)
The earlier ones were smaller and the later ones bigger.
Note that these do have a "handedness", that is, you can get
a right one to work on the left side but it will be at the end
of the ball travel. Also they are marked "R" and "L" at what
should be the outboard end. So the R goes far right and the L
    goes far left.

    Best regards,

Thanks George. very comprehensive answer as usual. Mobile internet is hit and miss in this country and very expensive. Have purchased old house in Kempsey NSW,after motorhoming for a year we realise a home base is a must for us, the grandkids and the 144. Now we can do some real travelling. Keep in good health. Regards Jack.

      George,

from this response, can I take it that tie rods from a '71 142 are larger than, and will NOT fit my '69 144s?

FWIW, my parts book appears to show one set of steering linkage part numbers for all '67 and '68 140 series, and another set of part numbers for '69 and up. That is, the new parts would have been introduced with 142/144/145 chassis numbers 52900/89900/9200 respectively (B20 intro, yes?).

Also, there are some funny things happening to the linkage part numbers on the '72 and '73 models, gets somewhat confusing, and I haven't taken the time to sort it all out, but it looks like some mid-year '72 140's had '73 parts? I dunno. In any case, I have no data on '74 140's, nor any 164's, so I can't comment on those interchange possibilities.
