shit with a bang 200 1990

the station wagon with automatic transmission is shifting into drive with a hard bang. when it is shifted into reverse it is smooth as it should be. i have checked the engine rpm and it is 900 rpm ,i replaced the engine mount which was broken and that did help a bit.also replaced the carrier bearing on the drive shaft with little change for the better. anyone have anything else i can try ? thanks in advance Rich

Stop pouring bean paste and chili into the transmission fill port and your problem should go away in a few days. (Sorry, couldn't resist). :P

A slightly mis-adjusted kick-down cable will sure do that.

adjustment procedure in FAQ 200 1990

Yes. Read in the 700-900 FAQ under auto-tranny 70 or 71. I think the adjustment procedure is in there.

Tranny rear tail housing bushing? 200 1990

    Tranny rear tail housing bushing?

Mine had a hard shift down into 1st or 2nd that disappeared after getting that bushing replaced. We had the job done due to a leak, but it also fixed the clunk.
