Automatic transmission's identity -- AW70, not 71.... 200

Not that it makes much difference in this problem, but I think you've got a AW70, not the AW71.

The reason is that I believe that the AW71 was reserved for higher output engines such as the turbo versions, while a '90 240 didn't have a turbo.
The AW70 has been what the non-turbo cars got.
Unless, of course, the transmission had been swapped earlier in its life. In any case, a plate on the side of the transmission (driver's side, as I recall) should establish its identity.
