Fuel pumps: turbo vs non-turbo? 900 1991

I need to replace the fuel sending unit on my 1991 940T due to rusting of the unit plate & connectors.

Two questions:

1. Are fuel sending units typically sold complete with component parts (pre-pump, sock filter, hose, connectors)?

2. I plan to replace the pre-pump at the same time. Catalog listings at IPD and other supplies show pre-pumps for both turbos & non-turbos, with significant price differential. (Ditto for the main fuel pump.) What are the functional/performance differences? Would it be possible/advisable to install a sending unit with a non-turbo 700/900 pre-pump? My basic automotive understanding is that what makes a turbo a turbo happens further "up front" in the fuel delivery system, but perhaps I'm wrong...

Thanks,
Peter A. Rogers

    Fuel pumps: turbo vs non-turbo? 900 1991

For 1991 and surrounding year 700/900s, the non-turbos have Rex-Regina engine management and have only one fuel pump which is in the tank. They are completely different from the two pumps used in the Bosch setup your turbo has.

fcpgroton.com has good pictures to go with its part numbers so you can see what they are talking about. I think they sell the complete sending unit, or the pump, sock, etc a la carte.

Rex Regina was on since 1990. Not all of the n/a had it, though ... some still had LH 2.4. I've had both types in my 1990 745's.

California with EGR? But regardless, if he is going to site X and they list different pumps for '91 turbo vs n/a, I think the n/a is sure to be Regina.
