145E cold starting 140-160

Cold starting problem 145E - 1973 automatic 120,000 miles. The engine starts fine when very cold, but stalls shortly thereafter. I can keep it running if I continue to pump the gas pedal a little. After the engine warms-up, it runs smooth. Any thoughts?

I've been haveing a similar problem, which was particailly improved by cleaning injectors and fixing a vaccum leak, however it is still neccessary for me to pump the gas in order for the car to start

If pumping is required then the mixture is probably lean and it's only the enrichment from acceleration that is keeping the engine running. As John said, suspect the temperature sensor or it's wiring. Maybe vacuum leaks that close up from expanding metal. It is possible, but unlikely, that the fuel pressure is too low when the fuel pump is cold. Sounds like the cold start circuitry is fine, it usually only functions for a few seconds and often only during cranking.

Wonder if maybe your auxiliary air valve is not working, or there is a temp
sender problem. Maybe even a vacuum leak that closes up when the engine gets
    warm.
