89 240 not charging 200 1989

Once the engine is running, you can almost forget the battery. Your alternator output should always be above battery voltage. The battery is there for starting. Period.

But when the meter gets down in the red (10v), it probably IS reading the battery—doing its best because the alternator isn't doing enough.
