Code 143 and engine light ON 700

Hello,

Last night a code 143 popped out. Chilton says ( for Motronic ) it might be bad knock sensor...Could it be bad gas?

'90 765 Turbo Wagon, regular gas, 228K miles

Any ideas?

Thank you

143 is a mother to fix. i've had 2 regina cars that refused to go away until i replaced the sensor and then cleaned EVERY CONNECTION between the sensor and the ecu. volvo has a bulletin that describes that, except replacing the sensor. get a wiring diagram, find the 3 or 4 connectors and the knock sensor wire, clean what you can and use stabilant 22. it's a contact enhancer. carquest and napa sell it. it's pricey-40 bucks or so. plus, a little goes a long way. good luck, chuck.

Thank you Chuck for your response. Light went away on its own yesterday morning and lit back up. I disconnected the sensor a couple of times to scrape oxidation from connections. After clearing the codes it remains off. Will se for how long.

Thank you,
