Car presently has Bosch # 0 280 000 510. Are there other units that could replace it? If so what are the Bosch part #'s?

0 280 000 503 is the only other ECU. It is slightly less reliable than the 510 as I recall. In it heyday 503/510 was right down there in reliability with the 561 of the LH 2.4 system.

That's the # for '83 and '84. No alternatives shown in my 1990 Bosch catalog.

The replacement # is CU91x (supercedes the long #)

83 and 84 models are special. No other ECU, wiring harness, and Mass air flow meter from other year Volvos will work. Although the part #s of the ECU is different from an 83 to an 84 they seem to work. I put an ECU from an 84 on mine and it seemed to manage the fuel better. ECU 83 to 84 visa versa.
