Position the bushing so that the lubricating grooves are on the bottom. This will allow the grooves to collect oil and act as a reservior.

The reason for not aligning the hole with a slot is that the hole creates a weakened area of the circular bearing shell that will deform if not supported by a circular (non-slotted) area of the opening it is pressed into.
