"So I learned a little from the experience, but that euphoric bubble containing my I-can-fix-anything-and-it-will-be-easy attitude got popped. Ah, well . . . poor me . . . "
Heh, the number of times this has happened to me... well, not that many, but my suspension and my tail-lights with the hidden short. I've broken down and I will finally just pay an electrician's shop to do it. Wiring, I've discovered is not enjoyable.
I'd like to know why you didn't pick up a radiator from a P/P and have it rodded, and repaired (resoldered). I've got the OEM radiator from mine and it cost $65 for R/R. They said it was nearly plugged.
No matter what, it's nice to see you fixing up the car, but... well, your situation makes me question whether a volvo is economically efficient.
I would HATE to suggest it, but maybe a stupid little anchovie tin, rice-rocket would be better suited to rebuilding your life while your brick stays on blocks.
However, if you can afford it, rock on with the volvo!
