Unexpected power increase? Kaehler RSR! 700

Well it just might be due to cooler weather here in Memphis (dropped out of the high 90's)

I have been using soldered up RSR's for many years with enough success to keep the 87 745 turbo going but lately performance was erratic with some slight bucking/surging at highway speeds. Switching to another spare seemed to help a bit

I finally broke down and bought a new RSR from FCP and for two days has felt like a significant power increase and the bucking/surging is gone.

Another brickboarder mentioned that the points become burned in the RSR and do not feed the injectors proper current. So keep that in mind when the solder cracks!

My advice; a new RSR is cheap but keep a couple soldered up ones in the glove compartment.

Taking a 1500 mi. trip this weekend, if this is a fluke I'll report back next week.

Unexpected power increase? Kaehler RSR! 700

Yes, I tried to re-solder 20-30 FPRs once and got about half of them to work reliably. Soldering is not the cure all that some think it is. Repeated efforts to solder some relays did not improve them.

RSR? what is that? also the surging of power, was that when you went into boost? did you notice any black smoke?

I'd like to know thanks

RSR? What the? 700

Don't feel bad. I didn't know what an RSR was either, and I just soldered one up yesterday. Add another acronym to my vocabulary...

RSR is the radio suppression relay which actually supplies power to the injector circuit, kind of doubt it really has much to do with the radio static but that's the official line.

I am still having the surging intermittantly but no black smoke, the 1443 mi trip yielded 30.5 mpg so it's not running rich! (black smoke)

Seems more like it's running lean, I plan to check connections on the RSR as well if there may be a bad connection that supplies current to the RSR.

BTW it does seem more pronounced when into boost but again very sporadic.
