Invisible spark plugs DOHC engine 700 1990

Thought I'd take a quick look at the plugs in the new 16 valve. Popped the hood, looked high and low. No plugs. I'm pretty sure the car has spark plugs - there would be a definite lack of performance if it didn't. So I'm guessing that they're hiding.

Seems to be too likely suspects for the hiding place. The wires seem to go under the rectangular cover in the middle of the two valve covers - the one with the two large cross slotted screws. There is also a large metal cover/shield over where I would normally expect the plugs to be.

Anyone have any guidance where the little buggers are, and the best way to get to them?

Remove the cover and all shall be revealed.

There should be a suitable wrench in the tool kit that came with the car, or use a socket and a long extension.

The plugs get pretty hot under that cover, be prepared that the little beasts can crack in the insulators, since the heat makes the cheramics more brittle than you may have been used to finding (been there, done that in a B234 engine). Therefore, do the replacement somewhere where you can take care of such a problem. Have some good strong vacuumcleaner or similar at hand, with nozzle extension, so you can suck up any debris. On the good side: they are more easy to get at since they stick almost straight up.
