Instrument cluster & interior lighting- quick fix 200

By accident, I stumbled on a quick fix for poor lighting (instrument cluster/ interior) on my 89, 245. Disconnect battery, remove all fuses fom fuse bus bar, clean front and back (as best can) of bus bar, including between the tabs where the wires connect. Get rid of greenish/ whiteish crud, as best as possible. Apply dielectric grease on bus bar & new fuses (ceramic). Install fuses, connect battery. You may need sunglasses when dome light goes on at night, and have to readjust cluster rehostat. I was amazed at the improvement. Original reason for cleaning was to correct power window problem (having to twist fuses to get them working again). Anyway, worked for me.

Enjoy !

Cool. A slight dab of conductive Kopr-Shield works even better on the contact points, but make sure not to get it on anything you don't want to make an electrical path with! You should be able to buy a small bottle of it from a local professional electrical supply house, if not you can get it from Eastwood.

Hey, thanks for heads up. Always interested in new ideas/ products. Sounds like it works quite well. Any draw backs, other than beiing careful not to put any where you don't want current to flow ?

We did as you suggested and the improved lighting was significant. You're right about the cluster rheostat: we moved it from "high" to "medium". Thank you for this quick-and-easy fix.

Amazing how a bit of electrical corrosion will reduce output. I plan on cleaning up other connectors this weekend. Who knows, maybe I'll end up with brighter headlights, and brake lights.

      Glad info was usefull.

      Enjoy !
