Re trim pieces: corner lights' can be used directly; the headlights' have to be modified.... 200

I've got two '93s, one with JBAuto Euroheadlights, and the other with genuine Volvo/Cibie Euroheadlights. There is a difference, in quality and in lighting.

But that's already been discussed here, so on to the point that I want to make here. It turns out that for the trim pieces (some folks call them the "eyebrows" :-),

1) the ones on top of the parking (corner) lights on US/OEM lamps *can* be installed directly on both the JBAuto and the Volvo/Cibie parking lights without modification. They line up and attach (with one screw) exactly.

2) the ones on top of the (plastic) headlights of US/OEM lamps *cannot* be installed on the Euroheadlights without modification. The easiest approach is to:
a) cut or grind off the mounting tabs.
b) Next, cut slots (about a 1/4 inch deep) along the pieces to correspond to the positions of the retaining clips on the front lens of the new Euroheadlights. The reason is that this would allow you to remove the lens if necessary (e.g., for an internal repair, very likely if you have the JBAuto crap) without having to remove the glue-on trim piece.
c) Now use a good adhesive to glue the trim piece in place on top of the front lens of the headlight.

One last thing -- I painted all the trim pieces black, for a more "Euro" look, instead of the chrome that they were in the US market pieces.

I think that when I asked this seller he said that these were aftermarket units, not Cibie/Volvo. If so, the price is too high.

Haven't delt with him but at least his prices have come down from the ~$4-500 range he was trying to sell those DJ Auto knockoffs for.

I've watched his auctions over the last year or so, he makes many blatent miss-statements and quite a few errors, those can NOT be SAE/DOT cerfified, and if they are DJ Auto they are not "original equipment on all European 240 Series Volvos from 1986 to 1993" as he states. He makes just as many false statements and errors on fitment in his vintage parts auctions, hard to beleive he has/had a shop.

As Bob says, you will have to mofify the stock trim to fit and glue it on with silicone. You will also have to fabricate adapters, the stock headlight plugs will not work on the H-4 bulbs these take. At least he changed his auction, it used to say they were "direct replacements"

All that being said I've had a set of those DJ units on my '88 for 5 years and they have provided good service. I used 55/100w bulbs running through relays to power them and the light output is very good. The beam pattern is not as good as the real thing but for ~1/2 the price (I paid $500 for a set of new Cibie/Volvo units) it's a good deal.

I think I'm going to go with a used set from Sweden, assuming that the shipping isn't completely attrocious, for roughly the same price.

Probably a good idea if you can be sure they will pack them well. I got several E-Codes off of ebay Germany, none of them arived intact. Good luck, whatever way you go it's a large improvement.
Cheers

Here's his reply:

"Shipping costs to you via Priority Mail is $34.75. It includes the l\head lights and corner lights. You can use the trim pieces from your old car. These are DJ Auto lights."

Sounds like an OK price considering they come with corner lights, the trim will need mofification, the attachment points will have to be cut off, then you secure them with a good grade of clear silicone.

The cheaper ones from the post above do not have corner lights included, but the price gives an idea of what these things should sell for.

My bottom line is if you can get genuine Volvo for a price you can afford do it. If not DJs from a trusted source that will back them up if they have issues on install is a good way to go. Be sure you can return them if they fail the first time you try to adjust them, both I and Ken have had issues with that. I got mine from a vendor which waranteed them, oddly they no longer stock them, draw your own conclusions ;-)

Do not know him. Gotta be the aftermarket Asian knockoffs, not as good as Volvo/Cibie. The trim pieces will have to be fashioned out of US trim.
