Value of 1980 242 GT 200 1980

The B23 is the bored out version of the B21. 1983 and 84 only in the US market.

1976-81 all 4 cyl were B21's (again, US spec cars). 81 the GLT model is introduced and some are Turbos. 81-82 only for the "GLT" badged cars. The Turbos are GLTs as far as luxury features and wheel & suspension options, but with the (non-intercooled) B21FT turbo engine.

In 1982 the DLs and GLs start to get a new fuel injection system and ignition. The change is mid-year, to LH 1.0. So there are a few of these oddballs out there. 1983, the Turbos gain an intercooler, led by the Flathood 242T. Upgrade kits are offered for the non-intercooled cars and a lot are converted by the dealers: hey, it's more power from the same engine! Unfortunately, the upgrade includes everything but the clutch.

The 83 DLs and GLs get the new B23 engine, with LH 2.0 injection. A new air mass meter! 002! Please don't break! New smaller bumpers too.

1984, the last year for the 242, engines are unchanged, but intercooling now standard on all Turbos.

1985, the last year for the Turbo, only 244 and 245 models are produced. The DLs and GLs gain the all-new B230 engine with LH 2.2 injection. The air mass meter is the 007 now.

1986, down to one engine option for the US market, just the B230. Only 240DL and 240GL models survive. Turbo models are offered in the 700 line; the 240 is demoted to commuter-car status. Sales inexplicably skyrocket and the 240 sells more than any other year before or since. The facelift could have had something to do with it.

Theres more history after that, but it's a story for another day...
