Window off track 200 1989

That's cool about the Turbo conversion. My friend built one at his dealership here. Fast, fun car. Also an 89- he started with a GL so the finished product was pretty close to a factory GLT Turbo of the early 80's.

Which engine did you use, from what year car?

As for the door window, the doors are not really hard to get into to fix. Remove the door pocket (3 quarter-turn plastic plugs, push up at each end). Remove the window crank if it's the manual window car (phillips screw under a thin plastic cover on the crank). Unscrew the lock knob. Pull off the square handle trim. Pry out the 2 plugs in the door handle. The screws under there are either big phillips or Torx depending on the year. Pull the handle away from the door a LITTLE and remove switches if it's a power-window car. Rotate the handle so the back points straight up, and pull it out of the socket at the top of the panel.

Go around the panel with a long screwdriver or a paint scraper- something thin. Pop out each plastic clip into the door body. The topmost ones, about 3 inches from the window scraper, are bigger than the rest. Push the whole panel up off the door, and reach behind to disconnect the speaker. Feed any power window wires through and set it aside.

You'll find these plastic "tuning fork" pieces at the pivot points for the window regulator. A metal clip and red plastic washers hold the pin through the guides and keep it all together. If these have popped off, you may be able to get them back on or the clips could be damaged. If you don't have access to a junkyard or parts car, you could temporarily hold a rear window up with tape, take apart the rear door and steal some clips out of the back door- it's the same parts and at least gets your driver's window fixed.

One other thing that can happen to 240 windows is the glass can pull out of the steel frame. You can squeeze the metal a little tighter, or squish a little strip of duct tape or something in there to keep the window in it's frame. Long-term, you should find a good window glass with an intact frame, because it will pull out again.

Good luck with it!
