replacing air mass meter? 700 1990

I have 190,000 miles on this vehicle and am having high revs and bumping problems with the engine. Have never had the air mass meter replaced and was wondering how long do they last, at that mileage is it time for another one?

Do 700's have Idle Control Valves? sounds like that is a good place to start.

AMM's don't have a Life like many things. I have over 250K miles on my original.

I'd also look at cleaning the Throttle body

Air Mass Meter problems are usually related to poor running when cold, or even a no-start condition in LH 2.4 cars, and if they fail completely, can cause stalling under medium to high load conditions.

It doesn't sound like any of these. I'm assuming the car is a turbo? You didn't say- most 740 non-turbos wouldn't have an AMM anyway in 1990. California cars however, would have one typically.

      Rob,
I believe that all 740's (In the USA)that are non-turbo would have an Air Mass Meter.
I could be wrong. Please correct me if I am not.

      Thanks,

        nope 700 1990

In the USA, all 740s up to 1989 had an AMM. From 1990 on, turbo 740s kept the AMM while n/a cars have Rex/Regina engine management so they have a MAP sensor and manifold temp sensor instead. (This cut off date is approximate as I have read of '89s with Regina and '90s with LH 2.4) The exception is California, where the n/a cars got an EGR valve and kept the AMM (not sure of years).

This info is just what I have gleaned from reading the BrickBoard for the past years. I own three n/a 740s with no AMM.

    "high revs and bumping problems"

Sounds more like dirty ICV/throttle body.
