loose windhshield trim 200 1989

Was test-driving the 240 (pre-purchase) and I noticed wind noise at 40mph+. Discovered windshield trim is loose at multiple points. Seller said this is a known problem due to byzantine snap-clip system on the '89.

How do I secure the trim so that it's not popping out of place like this? Do I need to replace the trim entirely, maybe with the molded plastic like that the '91 model? Cost estimate for replacement molding? Many thanks.

I have the same problem on my '90. So far I have been unable to locate new old-style trim. You can probably find some at a junkyard, but it'll be loose, beat up and difficult to re-install without bending it. My solution: I'm getting a late model 91-93 windshield (mine is leaking anyway) with attached molding installed for about $275. I won't have to worry about the old molding.

The glass man here in New York City told me that they have aftermarket clips and other creative ways for re-attaching that old-style trim. Call the local volvo dealer and ask them who does their glass work. They can make some recommendations.

Good luck.

Thanks, instantcrow. I'm less concerned about preserving the trim than I am about eliminating the noise, pop-offs at high speed (uhh, that would be what, about 62mph in an '89?) and potential leaks. I think I'll just have the trim removed and new trim/molding installed, if that's possible. If not, then I'll go the full windshield + molding replacement route. I'll give the local dealerships a call as you suggested. Thx again.
