Cracked turbo exhaust housing! '87 745 700

This is a good idea with all 700 series cars. They do generate a lot of exhaust vibration without it. Try to find stainless hardware to install instead of steel- you'll thank me in 30,000 miles.

The exhaust manifolds seem to crack in the centers where the pipes come together. The turbo exhaust housings I've seen crack around the wastegate and into the discharge side of the housing.

If the housing is not eroded too badly, it can be fixed by a skilled welder. It may require some advanced techniques like TIG welding. It will definitely require some finesse and I'd bet at least 2 out of 3 guys will say its impossible. The third just likes a challenge.

If the metal is not badly eroded and it's just a crack, it's worth trying this- if not simply find another turbo, and chuck that one.

The wastegate rod and arm can be separated, i.e. the weld ground away and the two pieces removed, to help with access to this housing. Note the positions, take pictures of it closed and open, whatever- the angle needs to be correct when it's welded back in place after the work is done.
