M46 OD Switch - Duane Help! 200 1982

Check fuse. Pulling the switch apart and reassembling probably blew it at some point.

Remove glove box and access relay. Remove relay from socket. With Volt/Ohm meter test the following socket points.

Ignition off. Contact meter between double blue wires in socket and brown wire. Pressing shifter switch should cause meter to read zero ohms. No push infinite ohms.

Check between black wire and a few metal points around glove box. A reading of zero indicates a good ground connection. If not follow wire to firewall or point of attachment and clean ground connection.

Check between black wire and red wire with shifter in 4th gear position. A zero ohm reading indicates a good 4th gear switch. Wiggling shifter should NOT cause reading to fluctuate. Anything other than zero when shifter is moving is indicative of bad 4th gear switch.

Turn ignition on. With volt meter, check for voltage between blue wires and black wire.

Jumpering with test wire between blue wires and yellow wires should turn on dash light and make solenoid click on trans as contact is made and broken.

If all the above check out and reinserting the relay does not make the dash light turn on when you push the button in 4th gear with ignition on, replace the relay.
