Has anyone done a heater core in a 240 wagon? 200

Hi everyone!
Well, I have a heater core leak in my beloved 1993 240 wagon. I need to replace it very soon, the foggy window is getting annoying and unsafe. I have done them in other cars and I have read the procedure in the Bentley, I was hoping to get some pointers from someone who has done this before.
How much time should I allow for me to tackle this project? I'm pretty good with this stuff, and I do like to take my time and do things right. Anything I should look out for?
Thanks!
Scott

Wow, you must really love your wagon :)
Best position I found for this is to hook your legs over the back of the front seats and work on it Anzac style.
Also bring a couple of mason jars to catch the coolant when you remove the hoses. That sounds like a no-brainer, but I never though of it untill soaking my hair in a puddle of antifreeze.

It took me a day. I hope your back is in good shape. The only thing to watch is where you put screws and clips. I neglected to replace the vacuum hoses while doing the job and a year later I now have a vacuum leak. Take your time and rtemember where everything goes. Its not really that technical.

Awesome, thanks for the posts. Do you have any other suggestions on how I can do it without pulling out the whole dash?? That would be AWESOME! I might try another bottle of stop leak and add some pepper. I have heard of this, even adding egg whites. I will be leaving out the eggs on my car, however.
Great, so no matter what, 6-7 hours is not really that bad!

Yes, I've done a few. Its considered a difficult job, it actually isn't, what it is is boring and time consuming. The whole heater assembly can be removed into the footwell once you've dismantled the centre console in the car. There is no need to touch the actual dashboard. You do need to take out the struts for the centre console. You'll spend a lot of time on your knees next to the car! They like to be worshipped, makes them run better.

If you search this site there will be any number of threads, last one I did took me about 3 hours, more like 6 or 7 for a first time.

Pete

Have you tried radiator stop leak? I know.. it's not best to do that, and I wouldn't if yours is a really nice car. But if it's not something you really care about...

My heater core sprung a leak about 200 miles into a 5k+ mile road trip this past summer. after three or four bottles of stop leak, and a couple cups of black pepper (works better I think), no more leak. 240s aren't prone to overheating, so I'm not worried about that.

And before the pepper did it's thing, it made the car smell nice when it leaked ;-) (I'm a huge fan of black pepper)

My condolences to you... I think this is just about the worst job on the car, from what I've heard anyway. I've been putting off the blower motor for a year becaue I am afraid of how long it will take. You will need to take apart alot of the dash board / center colsole to get at it. Plan alot of time for it. Think in terms of days, not hours.

Start with this: http://cleanflametrap.com/heater_core/

Don't totally despair, others have done it and will help you through it. Post back your questions as you progress.
