Trowout bearing screaming...how long can it last? 700 1989

744 16v, 205K miles:
I just got the new shocks, brake pads and conpression rod bushings in ...and now the throw out bearing is screaming when you depress the clutch pedal.
I'm sure the clutch is OK, my 745 has 404Kmiles on it's clutch.
Any way to oil or grease it in the car? :-)
How long will it last like this?

Does your dash have a tachometer? With a tach it is much easier to shift without using the clutch, which you will be doing soon. If the bearing is merely growling, it will last longer.

I did that "shift by ear" system for a day or so when my clutch cable snapped, in a Volvo with no tach. No fun, but driveable - at least to the shop. If you want my procedure just ask.

The throwout bearing is a PITA job, lots of labor for a relatively low cost part. That means to go in with the absolute best quality available. Also means doing everything else while you are "in there".

    Good Luck,

    Bob

Yes there is a tach, and I have driven without a clutch before. It's a bit tough though from a dead stop. Rough on the starter.
Haven't done a clutch in about 30 years, think I 'll ask around for prices first............
