Overdrive not working 700

Hello, I have a 88 740 volvo wagon that would not go into overdrive. Yesterday, I replaced the overdrive solenoid valve w/ a bypass kit from IPD. I have been driving the car since yesterday but still no overdrive. Any suggestions what might be wrong.Thank you and merry christmas.

I installed the IPD bypass plate on my car earlier this year and had the same problem. I called IPD and the guy I spoke to suggested I check if I might have left the old o-rings in place, and sure enough I had. Although you can feel them with your fingers, use a small mirror to aid in looking for and removing them. it also helps in making sure the new o-rings are installed correctly.

I love the by-pass plate now, no more annoying intermittent OD!

    Good Luck,
    JJ

Hi JJ, I have noticed there are 2 o-rings. I replaced the outer o-ring(large) but left the tiny o-ring in the middle in place. Am i supposed to removed the tiny o-ring in the middle? Thanks for your reply.Happy Holidays.

did you replace the solenoid on the tranny? there is an overdive relay that sends the power to switch on your shifter? pull it apart it should just slip into the handle and use test light to see if its getting juice and the switch in the handle is normally open....meaning it sends power thru switch when pushed and no juice thru when not pushed good luck
